Carlos Humberto Coroy Ruiz, 26, of Prince Frederick, was arrested and charged for his role in an incident in Lexington Park earlier this month, a spokesperson for the St. Mary's County Sheriff said.

Deputies from the sheriff's office were called to the 46500 block of Corporate Drive on Monday, July 25, where there was a reported disturbance involving Ruiz and his victim.

The investigation by the sheriff's office determined that Ruiz first attempted to remove his victim from a vehicle, subsequently stole a cellphone, and discarded it into the Patuxent River without haste.

It is unclear what the nature of the disturbance was.

Ruiz was arrested without incident and charged by deputies with robbery, theft, and malicious destruction of property. The sheriff’s office did not announce a return court date.
