Members of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office arrested Leonardtown resident Crosby Jay Dawson earlier this year following an investigation into a reported rape involving a juvenile, officials said.

This week, the state's attorney's office announced that Dawson was found guilty of two counts of second-degree rape and sexual abuse of a minor.

Dawson's January arrest followed an investigation by Child Protective Services and medical professionals after an anonymous complaint involving the victim.

When sentenced, Dawson faces up to 65 years in prison and will be required to register as a Tier III sexual offender for life.

Dawson is currently being held without bond at the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown while awaiting sentencing.
