A broken brake light led to charges for a pair from Hampstead who were caught with drugs and weed during a midday traffic stop in Taneytown, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office. Dashawn Melique Lewis, 19, and a 15-year-old who will be charged as a juvenile, were taken into custody on Wednesday morning after a patrol officer spotted them driving on West Baltimore Street with a suspended registration and inoperable brake light. A 23-year-old Maryland man is facing charges in New Jersey after an eagle-eyed police officer stopping him for a traffic violation found him in possession of a gun and a high-capacity magazine loaded with hollow-point bullets, a 7-inch folding knife, and a collapsable baton.
