Maryland State Police are asking for the public’s help to track down a driver who slammed into a trooper’s parked vehicle on I-695 and fled the scene. The crash happened shorty after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, when a trooper from the Golden Ring Barrack was assisting a motorist on the right shoulder of I-695 near Windsor Mill Road, police said. Anthony Ward, a member of the Baltimore Police Department's SWAT team, was killed in a car accident. The department announced Ward's death late Saturday, April 20. While police did not provide further details, Maryland State Police said Ward, 36, of Rosedale, rear-ended a Ford tow truck on the inner loop of I-695 around 4:30 p.m. just before the Jones Falls Expressway. With the entire East Coast continuing to adjust to the collapse of the Key Bridge collapse in Maryland, the state's Transportation Authority announced new closures and alternatives for motorists on I-695. Beginning on Monday, April 15, there will be a new closure point in effect on the Inner Loop.
