A Virginia man has been arrested for allegedly attacking and attempting to rape a woman walking home in the middle of the night, Fairfax County Police said.
Wuilver Mauricio Hernandez Garcia, 36, of Alexandria, is charged with abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape, and strangulation after a violent incident in the Woodlawn area early Thursday morning, June 5.
Police say that just before 1 a.m., a woman was walking near Roxbury Court when Hernandez Garcia followed her, dragged her into a nearby wooded area, and attempted to sexually assault her.

A deadly shooting inside a Prince George’s County apartment has left one man dead, another fighting for his life, and a suspect behind bars, police said.
James Stewart, 35, of Upper Marlboro, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with Tuesday's double shooting that killed Myandre McBride, 32, of Suitland, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Just after 12:30 p.m. on June 3, officers responded to the 5600 block of Regency Park Court in Suitland for reports of gunfire. They found McBride and a second man shot inside an apartment.

A Romanian man who led a global swatting ring that targeted members of Congress, churches, and even a former US president has pleaded guilty, federal officials announced.
Thomasz Szabo, 26, known online as “Plank,” “Jonah,” and “Cypher,” entered his guilty plea in federal court this week, according to the US Department of Justice.
Szabo was extradited from Romania in November 2024 and admitted to running a years-long online conspiracy that involved making fake bomb and mass-shooting threats across the United States, investigators said.
