Sehirbie Rouse, 36, of Brentwood, was behind the wheel on Friday, Feb. 28, when his car veered into oncoming traffic on Tuxedo Road in Hyattsville, leading to a fatal collision, Prince George’s County Police said.
Rouse was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive. The other driver suffered minor injuries.
Now, in the aftermath of the tragedy, his grieving family is struggling to bring his body home to Long Beach, California, where his mother, Lori Rouse, hopes to give him the farewell he deserves.
“I’m a single mother, and I’m trying to raise money for my son,” she wrote in a GoFundMe campaign. “Anything will help us to bring him home.”
A second fundraiser, started by supporters, also seeks to ease the financial burden on Rouse’s loved ones as they navigate the sudden loss of a son, father, brother, and friend.
The fundraisers describe Rouse as a man whose impact stretched from coast to coast, with loved ones on both sides of the country mourning his unexpected passing.
Authorities are still investigating what caused him to cross into the opposite lane before the crash.
For those who wish to help, donations can be made through the following GoFundMe pages:
Help Bring Sehirbie Rouse Home (organized by his mother, Lori Rouse);
Assist Curtis Rouse’s Family In Their Time Of Loss.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at 301-731-4422.
