Two drivers, including a teenager from Long Island and a healthcare business executive, were killed in a head-on crash on Route 28 in Ulster County after one vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, police said.
The crash happened on Route 28 in Olive around 6:47 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, according to New York State Police.

James "Jimmy" Brugger, 66, shot his wife, Melinda "Mindy" Brugger, 54, multiple times at their home on Milton Turnpike in the Town of Plattekill, representatives of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday, Aug. 24, following an investigation into the couple's deaths. NJ Police Lt. Thomas 'TJ' Malanka Jr. Dies 2 Months After Retirement
A longtime North Jersey police lieutenant who retired just two months ago has died, the department announced.
Lt. Thomas “TJ” Malanka Jr., Secaucus PD badge No. 125, died around 1:50 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, the department said.
Malanka served with the Secaucus Police Department from 2002 until June 2026. His assignments included patrol supervisor, platoon commander, and extra duty coordinator. Malanka also spent more than a decade as a member of the Hudson County Rapid Deployment Force, police said.
