Tornado Touches Down In MD During Weekend Storm, NWS Confirms The National Weather Service has confirmed that the wicked weather over the weekend produced a small tornado that was reported in northern Maryland. An “EF1” tornado with winds peaking around 90 mph touched down in Cecil County just east of Rising Sun between 6:35 p.m. and 6:41 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 after forming as a result of a cluster of thunderstorms that rolled through the region. One Killed, Another Injured In Wrong-Way Route 1 Crash One driver was killed and another was hurt following a Tuesday, July 19 wrong-way crash on the Route 1 bypass in East Nottingham Township, authorities confirmed. A 33-year-old Pennsylvania driver was traveling in the northbound lanes between SR472 and SR272 when a 25-year-old wrong-way driver from Maryland struck her vehicle head-on around 5:40 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police said. A structure fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5 in the unit block of Colonial Way in Rising Sun, when smoke was found coming from the inside of a shed in the yard of an area home. Six firefighters from the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun responded to the property, and were able to extinguish the fire within minutes, though the shed sustained extensive damage to both the interior and exterior of the structure.
