Tornado Touches Down In MD During Weekend Storm, NWS Confirms The National Weather Service has confirmed that the wicked weather over the weekend produced a small tornado that was reported in northern Maryland. An “EF1” tornado with winds peaking around 90 mph touched down in Cecil County just east of Rising Sun between 6:35 p.m. and 6:41 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 after forming as a result of a cluster of thunderstorms that rolled through the region. A 33-year-old Pennsylvania driver was traveling in the northbound lanes between SR472 and SR272 when a 25-year-old wrong-way driver from Maryland struck her vehicle head-on around 5:40 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police said.
