Longtime NBC Washington Reporter, DC Native Derrick Ward Dies At 62
Veteran NBC Washington reporter Derrick Ward has died at the age of 62 after suffering complications from a recent cardiac arrest, the station confirmed on Wednesday.
Ward, a District resident, had been a staple in the community for years, having reported for NBC, as well as local station WTOP after getting his start in upstate New York .
He has been covering his hometown community since 2006.
Ward was pronounced dead on Wednesday, Jan. 7 following the complications, his family confirmed in a statement. No further details have been provided.

A South Jersey man who graduated from the University of Maryland and went on to work in TV journalism in Pennsylvania and Virginia has been arrested on child pornography charges, authorities announced.
Cleve W. Bryan Jr. was charged Wednesday, Oct. 18 by police in Washington Township, Gloucester County with endangering the welfare of children by possessing child pornography, the department said.
Byran, of the Sewell section of Washington, was taken to the Salem County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance.

A New Jersey native, Rutgers alumnus, and influential Washington Post editor died Monday, Oct 24 after a battle with gastric cancer, the newspaper wrote in her obituary.
Neema Roshania Patel was 35, and most recently worked as the Post's editor for next-generation audience development, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Born in Maplewood, Patel worked on her high school newspaper before graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in economics and journalism in 2009, her former colleagues wrote.
