Supporters of the Andele-Hegbe family in Hagerstown have set up a GoFundMe campaign after their Ailanthus Drive home was struck and left uninhabitable while they were away at their son’s lacrosse tournament.

The family has been a fixture in the Hagerstown area for more than two decades, according to organizers of the fundraiser, where they raised their three children, who currently attend Smithsburg High School and Northern Middle School.

“They are a deserving and wonderful family and while this was an unforeseen tragedy, we can help them to get through this,” they wrote. "The family’s needs are great, and any monetary contributions would aid them in this difficult time.”

Organizers said that they’ve spoken with the family, and have been advised this is the only GoFundMe campaign that will be officially authorized on their behalf.

“While no amount of money can replace what has been lost, your contribution will allow them to begin to start over,” they wrote. “Please know your contributions will go directly to the family to be used by them in the rebuilding of their lives.”
