Warren Michael Griffin, 61, was pronounced dead by medical staff at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center after the incident, police said Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Griffin had been serving time at the Jessup facility on an assault charge, according to court documents, when he was killed.
Authorities confirmed that another inmate has been identified as a suspect, but no charges have been filed yet.
The suspect’s identity will not be released until charges are placed, officials said.
Maryland State Police were contacted on Friday, Feb. 21 by investigators from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit after Griffin’s death.
An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later ruled the death a homicide.
State Police homicide investigators, crime scene technicians, and DPSCS investigators are continuing the probe.
The case will be presented to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office for review once the investigation is complete.
The investigation remains active.
