Two 'Secret' Virginia Beaches Named Among Best In America
Secret's out. Two of Virginia's beaches have been named to a list of the top 100 secret beaches in America compiled by the Family Destinations Guide. The Guide said it surveyed 3,000 families nationwide to compose a list of hidden beaches that people liked the most. Coming in at No. 15 is Sandbridge Beach, and at No. 75 is Cape Charles. Located in Virginia Beach, Sandbridge is described as a "secluded beach hideaway" complete with dancing sea oats and and pristine dunes, the Virginia Beach website says. Need some more convincing? Maryland Takes Top Spot For States With Best Gender Equality, Education According To New Report
Maryland has earned the spot for best in the nation in for gender parity, reports US News. Maryland has taken the top spot overall in the study's education category, placing first for lower disparities for eighth graders in math and reading scores, and third for four-year public college graduation rates. The state has even made sure to prioritize K-12 education throughout the years, with both Democratic and Republican leaders, the report continues. This Virginia High School Was Just Named The Best In America By US News
A high school in Virginia was named the top school in American by US News. In releasing its latest rankings on best high schools in the US, the website put Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria at No. 1. The STEM school beat out 17,843 nationally-ranked schools and 323 schools ranked in Virginia, according to US News. Minorities comprise 81.7% of the school's enrollment, and had a 100% rate of test proficiency in math, reading and science among students, US News says.
