Dolphins Crash Party As Astronauts Return To Earth After 9-Month Mission Nine months after departing for the International Space Station on a planned week-long trip, two American astronauts have finally returned to Earth after a string of delays and bad luck.  But it wasn't just a grateful nation welcoming them home — they also received an unexpected visit from a pod of dolphins, which showed up to check out their splashdown. Astronauts Sunita Williams, 59, of Needham, Massachusetts, and Butch Wilmore, 62, landed  Tuesday evening, March 18, in the Atlantic Ocean near Florida. They were joined on the return trip by astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmo…

Astronauts Trapped In Space For 9 Months Prepare For Return Trip Home A planned trip to the International Space Station last year, originally set to last just over a week, has instead left two astronauts marooned in orbit for nine months. However, after repeated delays, the wayward wanderers are finally expected to return home on Tuesday, March 18. Astronauts Sunita Williams, 59, from Needham, Massachusetts, and Butch Wilmore, 62, blasted off in June 2024. Technical issues plagued their Boeing Starliner, and the craft returned to Earth without them out of concern for their safety. On Friday, March 14, a SpaceX Dragon capsule launched and docked with the ISS t…

Rare Comet Could Shine As Bright As Venus: Here’s When You Can See It A celestial event 160,000 years in the making will grace the night sky this week, as Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) makes its rare appearance.  Expected to be the brightest comet in nearly 20 years, it could shine as brightly as the planet Venus, offering a spectacular sight for skywatchers. Until now, the comet has only been visible in the Southern Hemisphere. However, stargazers in the Northern Hemisphere, including those in the US and Europe, will get their chance to view it as it travels back toward the Sun. The best time to catch a glimpse of the comet is around half an hour before sunr…

NASA Chooses Maryland Native For Upcoming Manned Flight To Moon It's going to be "to infinity and beyond," for a Maryland astronaut who got an assignment that is truly out of this world.  Baltimore native Gregory Reid Wiseman will be taking his second foray into space as he has been chosen to venture around the Moon on Artemis II, the first crewed mission on “NASA’s path to establishing a long-term presence at the moon for science and exploration.” Commander Wiseman will be joined on the scheduled 10-day flight by pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist 1 Christina Hammock Koch, and Mission Specialist 2 Jeremy Hansen in what NASA is calling “humanity’s…
