Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect For Much Of Region
With a round of storms moving from west to east in interior portions of the region, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for much of the area The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 across DC, MD, NJ, PA, and VA. Potentially dangerous straight-line wind gusts are the primary threat, with potentially damaging hail also possible, according to the National Weather Service. A new storm system accompanied by locally heavy rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and possible flash flooding will sweep through the region before things heat up for the rest of the week. Storm activity on Tuesday, July 25, will start from west to east in the early afternoon and continue through the evening, according to the National Weather Service. Hyperthermia Alert Issued For Montgomery County As Heat Rises
A Hyperthermia Alert has been issued for Montgomery County this week in preparation for extreme heat, officials say. The alert will be active for Wednesday, July 20, from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. as temperatures are expected to exceed 95 degrees, according to the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Temperatures are expected to hover in the low to mid-90s through the rest of the week, approaching 100 degrees during the weekend in the region.
