Dead Whale Washes Up On Assateague Island National Seashore
Beach-goers at the Assateague Island National Seashore made a whale of a discovery on Monday morning off the coast of Maryland. A massive, 20-foot-long humpback whale was found washed up on the beach on the morning of Monday, Jan. 16 near the Maryland Oversand Vehicle Area, according to the National Park Service, which is currently closed to allow the whale to be properly dealt with. A Maryland beach is reopened after it was forced to temporarily close due to several pieces of military munitions debris that washed ashore onto the sand over the past two weeks, according to the National Park Service (NPS). Parts of North Ocean Beach in the Maryland District of Assateague Island National Seashore had been closed since the end of July before reopening on Thursday, Aug. 4 after the discovery of old munitions on the beach. Stranded Seal Pup Gets ‘Wonderful World’ At National Aquarium
A little guy with a big personality is slowly warming up to his care team after being rescued off the coast of Maryland. The National Aquarium in Baltimore welcomed a new grey seal pup into their care last month. Now they say the pup is starting to find his groove, thanks to his attentive caretakers. Louis Armstrong was rescued from Assateague Island National Seashore at the end of February. He was found stranded, dehydrated and with wounds to his face and left flipper.
