Maria Mejia and her husband were ready to welcome their third child, Nuestro Regaló Dilan Gael, to the world on Wednesday, April 12, though fate had more pernicious plans in mind for the family that day.
While in labor with the child, there were complications, according to her husband, and she died from severe preeclampsia while giving birth.
“My beloved wife, or as I called her, my 'China,' came to the hospital to give birth to our third child, and this moment of happiness and joy a few minutes later became the most painful and sad process for me, my children, and their family,” he posted on a GoFundMe campaign, launche din Annapolis.
The support from the community continued to swell days after Mejia’s death, with nearly 200 people donating more than $14,000 to the Mejia family to help offset funeral and burial costs.
“My China leaves a void in the hearts of all of us who knew and loved her. Today there are three little angels who will no longer have mommy, her brothers and sisters, and family. A good sister, friend, mother, (and) daughter left us,” her husband continued.
“Through this means I ask you for your prayers toward my children and my house that God help us through this storm.”
