The Anne Arundel County Fire Department received a 911 call at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 10 from the Whittier Community Pool in Severna Park, where a girl was pulled from the water by on-duty lifeguards and was not breathing.
According to officials, the lifeguards immediately began providing medical care, including CPR, and were able to revive the girl before paramedics arrived.
The child was then taken to an area pediatric hospital as a precaution.
"As we roll into summer, The Anne Arundel County Fire Department wants to remind everyone of the dangers in and around the water," a spokesperson for the agency said.
"Accidents can happen within seconds; Have a plan, learn CPR, and call 911 as soon as the emergency occurs.
