A Maryland man is heading to jail after illegally dumping more than 250,000 scrap tires in Allegany County, leaving others to deal with the environmental fallout and cleanup efforts. Michel Osei, 48, of Hanover, pleaded guilty to 17 environmental crimes after abandoning a scrap tire operation in Westernport that investigators in Maryland say violated nearly every regulation on the books. The fallout resulted in Osei receiving five years of incarceration, with all but 45 days suspended, along with five years of probation. Baltimore County could be following in the footsteps of some neighboring jurisdictions and single-use plastic bags at retailers may soon be a relic of the past. We've all been curious about what we can and can't recycle. Well, now one city in Maryland is working to clear up that confusion! Baltimore recently announced they are launching a new program aimed at reducing the City’s recycling contaminants, or items that are not meant to be recycled. The program, called the “Fleet on the Street” campaign, is designed to remind residents what they can and can’t recycle.
