Scooter Causes $650K Fire That Displaced Two Derwood Families (Video) At least a dozen people including several children have been displaced after an accidental fire caused over half a million dollars in damages to a Derwood home. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue were called to a townhouse on Hiawatha Lane around 8 a.m., Thursday, April 13. Officials arrived to find the heavy fire conditions in the townhouse and were able to confirm that all occupants got out safely.  The fire began in the basement of the townhouse after an electrical scooter caught fire at a charging station, igniting nearby combustibles.
