'A Dark Winter': Maryland Reports Record High Number Of New Daily COVID Infections It looks to be a dark winter for Maryland as the state reported 6,218 new COVID-19 cases on Dec. 21, the most infections added in 24 hours during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the states Coronavirus dashboard. Further, Maryland's COVID-19 hospitalization rate has doubled since the beginning of December, and could overburden the healthcare system. Of those hospitalized about 75% were unvaccinated, according to officials.
