Tip Jar Thief Who Pepper-Sprayed, Stabbed Deli Worker Nabbed In Maryland: Police

A Silver Spring man with a coincidental name is in jail following a stabbing outside of a deli on University Blvd in Silver Spring.

Byrant Whack, 32, had been panhandling inside Max's Kosher Café on the 2300 block of University Boulevard when he assaulted the employee shortly after 12:30 p.m.,, Thursday, July 14, 2022, according to Montgomery County police.

The victim confronted Whack after he allegedly stole a tip jar from the counter of the deli and walked out.

Whack then sprayed the employee with pepper spray and stabbed them before fleeing the location. 

A lookout was placed for Whack and officers later found a man matching the description of the suspect running behind a laundromat on the 11300 block of Georgia Avenue, where he was arrested. 

The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition. 

Whack is currently being held without bond.
