Thessen graduated from high school in 2006 before joining the NASA team, where she had recently accepted a promotion, her obituary says.
Thessen was remembered for her love of sports, music, and most of all, her family.
“Callie was always so close with her family and friends, and love radiated from her in all that she did,” reads her memorial.
“She loved nothing more than spending her days with her boys and her husband — riding bikes, laughing, and loving.”
Thessen underwent sarcoma surgery in 2021 and suffered “numerous setbacks” before returning home, according to a self-launched GoFundMe for her family.
“If cancer has taught me anything, it is to embrace each and every minute of every single moment I have with my boys, my better half and family/friends,” Thessen wrote.
Thessen leaves behind her loving husband, Marcus II; their two sons, Marcus “MP3” and Mason; her mother, Marie; her sister, Courtney (Shadonna); her stepmother, Shelley; her stepsisters, Jamie (Shawn) and Jesse (Mark); her mother and father-in-law, Rhonda and Marcus I; her brother-in-law, Chase; as well as several nephews, nieces, extended family members and dear friends.
Thessen’s services were held Saturday, March 12 at Borgwardt Funeral Home on Powder Mill Road in Beltsville.
