The Montgomery Village resident tells officials he has a set of numbers, “chosen at random initially,” that he plays each week at a local 7-Eleven for the Powerball and Mega Millions drawings.

On Tuesday, March 19, the winner stopped at 7-Eleven at 19235 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg, bought one $3 ticket with Power Play for the March 20 drawing, and ended up matching four white balls and the Powerball, bringing a $50,000 third-tier prize — but the Power Play number for the drawing was X2, doubling his initial win for a grand total of $100,000.

The mechanics enthusiast shared the news only with his wife and plans to pay off a few small bills with his winnings.

The Powerball jackpot totals $1.3 billion for the Saturday, April 6 drawing with an estimated cash option (before taxes) of $608.9 million.
