At around 11:30 p.m. on Friday night, first responders were called to a home in the 19600 block of Westerly Avenue in Poolesville, where there was a reported fire that broke out and rapidly spread.

According to fire investigators, the cause is likely a lightning strike during the overnight storms, resulting in a basement fire that extended to the second floor.

Upwards of 65 firefighters responded to the scene and were able to get the flames under control on Sunday morning.

All residents inside the home at the time the fire was reported were able to safely escape, officials said, and there were no injuries reported.
