Major Winter Storm Triggers Thousands Of Flight Delays, Cancellations
A powerful winter storm sweeping into the Northeast has thrown air travel into chaos, forcing airlines to cancel more than 1,300 flights and delay over 4,200 flights by early afternoon Friday, Dec. 26. The hardest-hit airports are in the New York tristate area, where heavy snow is forecast to reach up to 10 inches in some locations. John F. Kennedy Airport led the nation with more than 350 canceled flights, while Newark Liberty and LaGuardia each saw more than 230 cancellations. Many schools in Maryland and Virginia will be closed on Wednesday as the region continues to contend with the latest batch of winter weather that brought inches of snow and ice. HAZMAT: Asphalt Spills On US-15, PennDOT Officials Say (

A tanker truck carrying bituminous oil, commonly known as asphalt, crashed on US Route 15 on Thursday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The truck blew a tire and veered off US 15 going into the woods — spilling asphalt the entire time, according to PennDOT spokesperson Frizti Schreffler. The crash happened in the northbound lanes near mile marker 19.4 in Tyrone Township around 8 a.m. on Aug. 17, as shown on 511pa.
