An ex-con from Washington DC has been convicted of shooting a transgender victim following a sexual act, federal authorities announced. Jerry Tyree, who has previous weapon and drug convictions in Maryland and the District, was found guilty by a Superior Court jury of aggravated assault while armed for shooting his victim in November last year in Northeast DC. Police have identified a teen who was killed in a Northeast D.C. homicide on Saturday, July 9, officials said. Damari Wright, 17, of Alexandria was found inside a vehicle at around 5:30 p.m. at the 3500 block of Hayes Street, the Metropolitan Police Department said. He had suffered apparent gunshot wounds, but showed no signs of life, officials said. Six United States Postal Service mail carries were robbed at gunpoint and assaulted in the spans of two days across Washington DC and Maryland, officials said.
