A death investigation has been launched in Virginia after a woman was accidentally struck by a bullet, according to police. Officers from the Fairfax County Police Department were called before 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, to a home in the 4500 block of Derring Lane in Fair Oaks, where there was a report of a gunshot that went off. According to investigators, they believe the woman sustained the fatal gunshot wound after the gun accidentally discharged while it was being cleaned inside the home. A 3-year-old boy was found shot inside a Maryland home in what is believed to be an accidental shooting involving an unsecured handgun on Monday, police say. An investigation has been launched by the Howard County Police Department following the fatal shooting, which was reported inside a home on Harpers Ferry Road in Columbia on July 1. New details have been released by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office after a minor had to be rushed to the hospital after being accidentally shot over the weekend. A 9-year-old boy has been identified as the suspect that accidentally fatally shot a teenage girl in the head, officials say. The boy was allegedly playing with the loaded handgun when it accidentally discharged, striking and killing Nykayla Strawder, 15, in the 600 block of Linnard Street on Saturday, Aug. 6, according to Baltimore police.
