The newest Maryland Lottery numbers game proved fruitful for the couple - who chose not to disclose their names - after they claimed a $50,000 prize this week after winning the top prize during the Thursday, May 12 drawing on a ticket sold at the Buckeystown Mart.
An official for Maryland Lottery said this week that since the game debuted in February, the couple has played a combination of Quick-Pick tickets and personal sets of numbers before striking it big in the May drawing.
The 63-year-old wife purchased a $1 straight bet ticket for the evening “Pick 5” drawing at the mart, “letting Lady Luck pick her numbers,” a lotto official said.
The numbers that night: 4, 4, 3, 7, and 9.
“Later that night, after the drawing, the 63-year-old checked the ticket using the Lottery app on her phone,” they said. “She didn’t get excited as her numbers matched, one by one, until she saw the very last digit fall into place, locking in a $50,000 win.”
The couple has not determined what to do with their prize money, which was also a boon for the Buckeystown Pike mart in Frederick County, which was awarded a $500 bonus from Maryland Lottery for selling the winning $50,000 “Pick 5” ticket.
According to Maryland Lottery, the probability of matching all five numbers in the exact order on a $1 bet is 1 in 100,000.
