Some motorists were held up on Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery County when a dump truck overturned and spilled debris into a busy roadway. Fourth District units were called at around 2 p.m. on Oct. 9 to a stretch of Layhill Road near Norbeck Road, which led to delays for some travelers heading through the area in the area of Aspen Hill. Eagle-eyed employees at a Montgomery County grocery store assisted police in apprehending a man who attempted to return stolen merchandise for cash and assaulted an employee along the way. Rafael Stedman Diaz-Powell, 25, who has no known address, returned to the scene of the crime and found himself behind bars for his troubles in connection to a strong-armed robbery over the summer. An investigation has been launched in Montgomery County after an 18-year-old from Silver Spring was shot to death in an area playground, authorities say. Christian Ortiz has been identified by police as the person who was found suffering from a fatal gunshot wound near Seek Lane Park earlier this week, investigators announced on Thursday. Family With Baby Displaced By Maryland House Fire, Officials Say
Seven people and a baby were displaced by an early morning fire that is believed to have broken out in a family's garage in Montgomery County. At approximately 5 a.m., first responders were called to a two-story home on Duvall Street near West Deer Park, where they were met by flames showing through the roof of the residence with smoke billowing through the area.
