Police have identified Port Deposit resident Dylan Edwards, 26, as the driver who was killed in a crash while he was pulling a 2003 tanker trailer on Route 276 that led to power lines in the roadway, shutting down lanes in both direction on Thursday, June 22.
Shortly before 2:15 a.m. on Thursday morning, Maryland State Police troopers were called to the highway near Cowan Road in Colora, where there was a tractor-trailer that crashed into the woods near the roadway.
Investigators say that Edwards was traveling north on Jacob Tome Memorial Highway when he lost control, went off road, and struck a power line support pole that broke, causing the power lines to come toppling across the roadway.
The crash forced Maryland State Police to close down the highway in both directions during the investigation and subsequent cleanup. The road reopened at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
