Where To Get Free Doughnuts, Big Discounts For National Donut Day 2026
A day dedicated to delicious deals on doughnuts is serving up plenty of sweet reasons to celebrate. National Donut Day falls on Friday, June 5, and chains across the US are offering free doughnuts, huge deals, and limited-time giveaways. The holiday began in 1938 when The Salvation Army in Chicago created it to honor "Donut Lassies," who were volunteers who served comfort and doughnuts to American soldiers in the WWI trenches. The Lassies' work not only improved troops' morale but also made doughnuts popular back home. Across the country, doughnut chains and local shops are servi…

Super El Niño Could Raise Hantavirus Risk
A powerful climate pattern could pose a health concern unrelated to storm tracks or temperatures. A potential Super El Niño could indirectly raise the risk of hantavirus cases by creating conditions that allow rodent populations to grow, according to Smithsonian educational material on El Niño and disease. The concern is not that El Niño itself causes hantavirus. The risk comes from what can happen afterward. Heavy rain and warmer conditions can lead to more vegetation. That gives rodents more food and shelter. When rodent populations surge, they can move closer to homes, cabins, sheds, ga…

Sewn Into Underwear, Hidden In Pants: Nearly $100K Seized From Dulles Travelers
What started as a few simple questions at Dulles International Airport turned into a search for cash hidden in purses, secret pockets, and even women's underwear. By the end of Memorial Day weekend, US Customs and Border Protection officers had seized nearly $100,000 in unreported currency from two groups of travelers headed to Belgium. The strangest part? The money wasn't illegal. The travelers just allegedly didn't tell the truth about how much they were carrying. On Saturday, May 23, CBP officers and Vito, a nearly 2-year-old German Shepherd trained to detect currency, stopped a US ci…
