DMV Dad Killed In Motorcycle On Way To Work While Saving For Family’s Dream Home

A 28-year-old Virginia father of two who was working to save for his family’s first home was killed in a tragic motorcycle crash while heading to his second job, prompting an outpouring of support from loved ones and coworkers.

Steven Wine, a husband, father, mentor, and shop manager, was on his way to work around 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, when he was involved in the fatal crash.

The Spotsylvania native had just celebrated his birthday and was working around the clock to give his young family a better future, his loved ones say.

"Steven and his wife had been saving tirelessly for a down payment on their first home, where his young, growing family could put down roots, make memories, and feel secure," GoFundMe organizer Adam Rehberg wrote. "It was a dream he spoke about often, his eyes lighting up with pride and hope."

His sudden death has left a deep void in the lives of those who knew him, and his friends, coworkers, and community members have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support his wife, Kassandra, and their two children, Mason, 4, and Maddison, 1.

As of March 13, the fundraiser had raised more than $17,000 to assist with funeral expenses and the family’s financial future.

"Steven was the kind of person who made everyone around him better," Rehberg said

"His generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was lending a hand, sharing a kind word, or simply being there when you needed him, he lived his life with an open heart."

Wine was a pillar in his workplace, not just as a shop manager but as a mentor and leader, according to Rehberg

His coworkers recall him as the heartbeat of the team, known for his unwavering work ethic and deep faith. His worship music played in the shop daily, not just for himself but as a way to uplift those around him.

"A true company man, he poured his energy into always having conviction of doing what he thought was best for the overall business," organizers of the GoFundMe wrote. "In the shop, you’d hear his worship music playing, a reflection of his deep love for Jesus.

"He didn’t just play those songs for himself—he ministered to us through them, sharing his faith in a way that was gentle, genuine, and impossible to ignore."

"Steven Wine. 7 years of life changing moments into a post," a friend posted on Facebook. So many conversations about scripture and biblical principles!

"The way you tip your head when you are pondering. Iron sharpening iron."  Denise Johnson continued. "Hearing you say, 'Hey Buddy,' to Mason and hearing Maddie squeal, 'Daddy' with excitement."

Outside of work, Wine was passionate about engines, sports, and spending time with his family, his friend said.

Whether it was fixing up motorcycles, playing church softball, golfing with friends, or organizing fantasy football leagues, Wine poured his energy into the things and people he loved, friends said.

Most of all, he was dedicated to his wife and children, often spending time at the park with them and planning for their future.

"He strived every day to be the best dad and husband he could be," Rehberg wrote. "Steven gave so much to all of us—his time, his love, his faith. Let’s come together to give back to his family in their time of need."

Donations to support Wine’s wife and children can be made through the GoFundMe campaign here.

"Steven gave so much to all of us—his time, his love, his faith," they wrote. "Let’s come together to give back to his family in their time of need.

"Let’s show them they’re not alone, that Steven’s light still shines through all of us who knew and loved him."
