Shortly before 10 p.m. on Nov. 3, troopers from the Easton Barrack were called to the eastbound lanes of Route 50 near Austin Road to investigate a reported crash involving a Subaru that left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and caught on fire.

According to investigators, a man driving was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman was flown by a state police helicopter  the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health at Cambridge, where she also died from her injuries.

Neither was identified by state police.

A minor passenger was also flown to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, which closed down the eastbound lanes of Route 50 for several hours.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control before the crash, which remains under investigation.
