A Maryland man has been sentenced after killing a teacher on her way to school and seriously injuring her daughter while he was driving high on marijuana and speeding at over 100 miles per hour from Pennsylvania State Police, authorities announced on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Christopher Pineda-Gasca, 21 of the 200 block of Wheatley Street, North East, MD, was sentenced to 16 to 32 years in prison by Lancaster County by Judge Dennis Reinaker on Oct. 27, the district attorney's office detailed.

A convicted felon wanted in three states was arrested during a domestic assault in Pennsylvania on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, according to police.
Perez Estavon James, 31, of Hagerstown, MD, was found in a home in the 300 block of Locust Street, Columbia Borough, PA — the scene of the domestic assault, according to a release by area police.
"The investigation resulted in Perez Estavon James being placed under arrest," the police said.

3.8 Million Pennsylvania Birds Hit With Avian Flu, 19K Linked To Duck Meat Farm
A total of 3.8 million birds have been affected by an outbreak of avian flu in Pennsylvania as of Monday, May 2, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced.
More cases were linked to a seventh commercial farm described only as a "duck meat bird facility" in Lancaster County, with the outbreak having been reported late last month, the USDA said.
More than 19,300 birds at the facility were depopulated, according to a chart on the USDA website.
