A deadly shooting rocked the quiet town of Forest Heights Tuesday evening, leaving two young men dead, police say. The victims, 24-year-old Brian Freeman of Forest Heights and 21-year-old District resident Sakou Mathis, were identified Wednesday by the Prince George's County Police Department. A man who was carrying a multi-tool that first responders in Forest Heights believed to be a weapon is facing charges in Prince George's County after he was shot during an officer-involved shooting, police say. Silver Spring resident Jhomari Delevante, 35, has been charged in connection to a non-fatal officer-involved shooting on Monday night following a strange scene that played out in front of officers. Funeral Services, Tribute Set For Police K9 Who Died In Line Of Duty In MD
Special services have been arranged for a police K9 in Maryland who died while serving his community. Earlier this month, Kuno, a member of the Forest Heights Police Department who partnered with Sgt. Grooms for years, died in the line of duty assisting the Prince George's County Police Department during a call for service. Kuno was the original, longest-standing K9 in the department. The cause of death was determined to be heatstroke while searching a school building for a burglary suspect.
