One person was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and a firefighter was also being evaluated, Howard County officials said.
Initial investigation showed what appeared to be remnants of an incendiary device, which led authorities to believe the fire could have been set on purpose.
Crews responded to the fire in the 10400 block of Hickory Ridge Road just after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, officials said.
Upon arrival, crews saw the fire coming from the second floor and had to rescue several people from inside, officials said.
The fire spread to the third floor and took 45 minutes to contain. The total cost of damages is estimated to be $500,000, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact authorities at 410-313-STOP or HCPDcrimetips@howardcountymd.gov.
