All MTA Metro Subway stations will be closed to allow the organization to test a new Communications Based Train Control system that should be fortuitous for travelers following the closure.
Officials said that "the CTBC is a critical piece of infrastructure that will support the new Metro Subway railcars that will begin service in mid-2025."
This marks the first test.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, the stations will be closed before reopening in advance of the morning commute at 4 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7.
During the closures, shuttle buses will be made available at all stations every 30 minutes during regular service hours.
“We’re excited to welcome our new Metro trains to Baltimore and a modern Communications Based Train Control System will ensure a successful transition,” Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold said.
“We are working hard to minimize disruptions, and we are grateful to our passengers for their patience during the testing period.”
