Cotton Candy Makers Ignite Sugar, Sparking Large Recall
Thousands of cotton candy makers are being recalled after a dozen reports of sparking and fire. Wuensche USA issued the recall for about 21,690 Ambiano Cotton Candy Makers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday, Sept. 18. The heating element can cause sugar to ignite if the machine is used without the included sugar receptacle, posing a fire hazard. Wuensche has received 12 reports of sparking or fire. A sprinkler system is being credited with saving a Maryland high school after an electrical fire broke out Tuesday night — but students still got the day off while crews cleaned up, officials said. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire happened at Queen Anne’s High School on Ruthsburg Road in Centreville around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9. A fire that erupted on the roof of a Virginia home was caused by a solar panel malfunction, officials said. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews were called to the 2300 block of Colts Brook Drive around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, where crews arrived to find flames showing from rooftop solar panels, the department said.
