The fatal collision happened shortly before midnight on Thursday, Feb. 20, along Generals Highway near Knollwood Drive.
Police say Jonathan David Rober, 47, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata northwest on Generals Highway when the vehicle crossed the center line and slammed head-on into a 1997 Toyota 4Runner.
Rober was rushed to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Toyota, a 38-year-old man from Crownsville, was unharmed; however, two passengers—both 26-year-old women from Annapolis—sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
One was taken to the University of Maryland Regional Medical Center, while the other was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment.
Tributes celebrating Rober's life poured in on social media when news of his death spread.
"Jon was truly a lover of all, and he never ceased to make sure those he loved knew it. We weren’t lovers - but we were absolutely kindreds," one friend wrote.
"Jon was a lovely and incredibly engaged, hands-on father, who adored his children," she continued. "He was an excellent sailor, and all of those days on his boat will remain some of my fondest memories."
"He lived to have no regrets, and accomplished that mission here on earth," another friend posted.
"There’s a common theme reading through the comments of those that knew him — he loved, he was brilliant beyond measure, he was one of the good ones, and again — he loved."
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
"I’ll forever treasure the memories I hold of him, and I’m so thankful for all of the photos and videos I have on my phone," his friend added.
"He was truly one of the BEST of us."
