Andrew Britt, 27, has been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, for allegedly opening fire on officers in the parking lot of the Wilkens Precinct on Thursday, March 13, Baltimore County Police said.

Investigators say Britt approached an officer outside his patrol vehicle around 2:30 p.m. and began speaking with him. Moments later, he pulled out a gun and started shooting.

As officers returned fire, another officer standing outside his vehicle was struck.

The officer, a seven-year veteran of the force, was rushed to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in critical condition. He underwent surgery and has since been released, police said.

Britt was also shot multiple times in the lower body during the exchange and taken into custody. He was hospitalized in critical but stable condition before being booked into jail, where he remains held without bond.

Authorities say two officers fired their weapons during the incident—one with 25 years on the force and another with two years of service. Per department protocol, both were placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Britt now faces a long list of charges as detectives with the Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit continue their probe into the attack.

“This kind of violence is shocking, outrageous, and has no place in Baltimore County,” County Executive Kathrine Klausmeier said, as she joined Police Chief Robert McCullough at the hospital following the shooting.

“Baltimore County Police Department and its members are appreciative of the UM Shock Trauma for all they do for our officers today, in the past, and what we know they’ll do in the future.''
