Kidnapper From MD Caused 34-Hour Standoff In VA: Police
A Maryland woman is facing a host of charges for abducting a victim and then causing a 34-hour standoff with police that ultimately ended in her peaceful surrender in Virginia, authorities said.
What started as an investigation into a missing 25-year-old woman over the weekend rapidly escalated into a kidnapping probe involving Brittany A. Copelin, 29, who made her way from Charles County, MD to Fairfax County, VA, police said.
The near-weeklong ordeal began on Friday, March 24, in Laurel, when police were called to investigate the kidnapping of Lauren L. Kingsbury, police said.

Brandywine Man Arrested In Connection To Rape, Carjacking Of Men Met On Dating Apps, Police Say
A Brandywine man has been charged after reportedly raping a man he met on a dating app at gunpoint, authorities say.
On Sunday, Feb. 12, detectives were notified that Rodney Richardson, 26, reportedly assaulted a victim on Friday, Feb. 10 after they agreed to meet in Brandywine, according to a Prince George's County Police Department spokesperson.
After meeting with the man, Richardson reportedly raped the victim at gunpoint and then drove the victim to his bank and forced him to take out money, police said.

Felonious Fugitive With Warrants Out For Arrest In MD Found In Fredericksburg, Sheriff Says
A fugitive with multiple felony charges out of Anne Arundel County has been found and taken into custody, police say.
Melvin Anibal Duran Flores, 35, of Fredericksburg, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 9:25 a.m., according to the Stafford County Sheriff's office.
Flores had multiple felony charges including three counts of kidnapping, four counts of assault, two counts of false imprisonment and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Detective J.G. Wright III and the U.S. Marshals Service worked together in order to take him into custody.

A former Virginia State Police trooper was killed in a shootout with police who say he traveled across the country to Riverside, California, where he abducted a teenage girl he met online, before killing her mom, grandmother, and grandfather.
Austin Lee Edwards, 28, of North Chesterfield, parked in a neighbor’s driveway and allegedly set the family’s home on fire before kidnapping the teen he “catfished” on Friday, Nov. 25, according to the Riverside Police Department.
