Maryland and Virginia residents are preparing for a possibly significant winter storm that is expected to deliver heavy snowfall and dangerously low temperatures starting Sunday afternoon according to the National Weather Service (NWS). First Cold-Related Deaths Of The Holiday Season Reported In Maryland
The first three cold-related deaths of the 2024-2025 winter season have been reported in Maryland, according to state health officials. The Maryland Department of Health said the deaths involved adult males—two in their 60s and one in their 30s, with two being reported in Baltimore City, while the third was reported in Baltimore County. The first fatality was reported Nov. 23, with the other two occurring Dec. 2. Hypothermia Alert Issued For People, Pets In Montgomery County
A hypothermia alert has been extended for Montgomery County. The present alert lasts through Jan. 21, according to Montgomery County Fire And Rescue. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia so be sure to dress up your critters. A Hypothermia Alert is issued when forecasted temperatures, and/or wind chill fall below 32 degrees creating a hazardous situation in which hypothermia and frostbite are likely.
