A Falls Church man who entered a Prince William County church armed with a gun and dozens of rounds of ammunition was convicted of a federal hate crime after making threats to kill congregants during Sunday services, authorities announced. Many schools in Maryland and Virginia will be closed on Wednesday as the region continues to contend with the latest batch of winter weather that brought inches of snow and ice. The Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System (LC-CFRS) has released its comprehensive report on the February 2024 house explosion in Sterling that tragically claimed the life of Firefighter Trevor Brown and injured 13 others. The blast occurred on Feb. 16, 2024, after first responders were called to a gas leak at 347 Silver Ridge Drive. A Maryland man is facing serious charges after allegedly using social media to solicit and sexually assault a minor in Prince William County, authorities announced. Elias Samuel Vargas Canaviri, 22, of Silver Spring, was arrested on Nov. 20 following an investigation into the reported assault of a victim under 18 in the Manassas area between Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. Hyattsville resident Brayan Anthony Acevedo was arrested overnight in Prince William County following a reported incident where he abused a woman and refused to let her get out of his car.
