Repeat DUI Offender Drove 43 Miles Drunk From Maryland To Virginia, Sheriff Says
A La Plata woman who traveled more than 40 miles from Maryland to Virginia before stopping for a nap at a traffic light is facing another DUI offense, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, deputies were called to investigate a possible drunk driver, where they found Amy Cooksey, 59, parked at the traffic light in front of Sheetz on Kings Highway unconscious behind the wheel. Chester resident Gwendolyn Persina has been identified as the reckless driver in a blue Honda Civic who was allegedly speeding, struck another vehicle, and caused the crash that wreaked havoc for some travelers in January. A pair with a curious business plan are behind bars in Virginia after attempting to clean up by selling stolen Tide detergents "like drugs" in Stafford, according to the sheriff's office. Upper Marlboro resident Toddrick Bowens, 30, and Falls Church native Sonia Bonilla Hercules, 19, are both facing charges after being busted with drugs and more than 100 bottles of detergent they they planned to re-sell. Police Sergeant In Maryland Pleads Guilty To Driving While Impaired, Sheriff Says
A suspended sergeant with the Charles County Sheriff's Office has admitted to driving under the influence in St. Mary's County, officials announced. In June, Sgt. Robert Smith was suspended with pay after the sheriff's office learned that he was being charged in the neighboring jurisdiction. The incident was reported on Tuesday, June 11 in Mechanicsville.
