Officials were called shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, to the northbound lanes of Solomons Island Road at Route 50, after an SUV hit a woman in the roadway, where investigators noted there is no crosswalk.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from Anne Arundel County Emergency Medical Services.

The driver of the 2016 Ford Explorer, who happens to be a state police trooper, attempted to render aid to the woman until backup arrived.

Police say that the trooper was uninjured.

Following the crash several roads were closed in the area amid the investigation, which is ongoing.

No details about the trooper or victim have been released.

Once the investigation is completed, it will be presented to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office. State Police are also conducting an administrative review.

This is a developing story.
