More than 220,000 Segway Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters are affected by the recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a news release on Thursday, Mar. 20.

Segway has received 68 reports of folding mechanism failures, according to the CPSC. The incidents include 20 injuries such as abrasions, bruises, lacerations, and broken bones.

The scooters were sold at Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target, and Sam's Club, as well as online at Segway.com and Amazon.com. They were available between January 2020 and February 2025 for $600 to $1,000.

The Max G30LP model is gray with yellow accents, while the Max G30P is black with yellow accents. Both have the brand name "ninebot" on the foot platform and handlebars.

Owners should stop using the scooters immediately and call Segway at 800-914-6110 or visit Segway's Recall Center to determine if their scooter needs repair. Segway is providing a free maintenance kit with tools and instructions to check and tighten the folding mechanism.

The scooters, imported by Segway Inc. of Los Angeles, were manufactured in China and Malaysia.
