Winter Storm Alert: Maryland, Virginia Brace For Snow, Arctic Freeze Maryland and Virginia residents are preparing for a possibly significant winter storm that is expected to deliver heavy snowfall and dangerously low temperatures starting Sunday afternoon according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Forecasters warn that snow accumulation in the region could range from four to eight inches, with the heaviest snowfall expected during the afternoon and evening hours.  The NWS Baltimore-Washington office tweeted, "A winter storm will impact the region Sunday with accumulating snow likely. Gusty Winds, Possible Snow Heading Toward Maryland, Virginia, Forecasters Caution Forecasters are cautioning that some wild weather may be moving through the DMV region through the weekend as the area braces for possible snow storms in parts of the area. A "Special Weather Statement" was issued by the National Weather Service advising that wind gusts possibly approaching 50 mph may be on the way on Wednesday night, bringing with it a strong cold front and possibly a taste of winter weather in the mountains.
