The crash involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV occurred on Route 146 North near exit 6 in Uxbridge at 12:38 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, Massachusetts State Police said.

Police said the SUV went off the road, down the embankment and into the woods. The male driver was thrown from the vehicle while his female passenger was trapped inside, police said.

A State Trooper, who was working a nearby detail, arrived at the scene and removed the male driver from the SUV, police said. Additional crews arrived for further assistance later on.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and was said to be "conscious and alert," according to police. There was no word on the driver's condition or the condition of the driver of the tractor-trailer.

The incident shut down both lanes of Route 146 north and traffic was being diverted onto Route 16 as a result, police said. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
