Heavy snow is coming to the region starting on Wednesday, Dec. 16 night. White-out, near-blizzard conditions could whip up at times, mostly overnight.

The National Weather Service upgraded much of Massachusetts - including all of Central and Western Massachusetts - to a Winter Storm Watch on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

There is a 90 percent chance that snow will begin to fall, mainly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and it will be heavy at times, the National Weather Service said.

The snow accumulation is predicted to be between 7 and 12 inches.

Winds will be moderate at around 9-14 mph with gusts of up to 25 mph.

There is a 70 percent chance the snow will continue into Thursday, stopping around 2 p.m. The winds will be moderate with the potential for gusts.

Colder than average temperatures will settle in later in the workweek.

After the Wednesday-Thursday storm, there is no more snow predicted over the weekend, but temperatures are expected to dip just below freezing on Friday and Saturday.
