Joseph Hayes, 50, of North Brookfield, was charged with breaking and entering during the daytime with intent to commit a felony, larceny from a building, and willful and malicious destruction of property, Worcester police said.

Hayes is accused of breaking into a West Boylston Street home around 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, authorities said. Unfortunately for him, the homeowner showed up during the burglary and immediately called police after noticing the damage.

Officers found Hayes in the home's backyard with several items he'd reportedly stolen from inside, authorities said. They returned the items and took him to jail, officials said.
